A successful PFI bid, leading to the appointment to design the 6000m² Brighton Central Library, in conjunction with Bennetts Associates Architects The bid was successful in part due to the innovative low energy approach and excellent BREEAM rating, using a mix of the established thermal storage Termodeck system and a wind assisted displacement ventilation system. Fulcrum are involved throughout the design and construction stages in all mechanical and electrical installations. This also includes a scheme for rainwater recycling, acoustic and specialist lighting input. The library itself is part of a £45 million masterplan, comprising a new public square, hotel, offices and mixed retail and residential buildings. Fulcrum Consulting are currently involved in most aspects of the project, which are being developed as part of an integrated programme and include a scheme for combined heat and power on the site.
